
Jackie Urbanovic, author and Illustrator of Duck Soup, Duck and Cover, Sitting Duck, and Duck at the Door, is the featured author for this year’s Celebration of Reading.
She will be in Henderson October 18-20 visiting schools with her interactive program and sharing how her personal life impacts her writing, how she became a professional artist, a glimpse at her work life, and sneak previews of upcoming books.
Jackie will also have the opportunity to visit with teens at several locations, talking about the process of becoming a professional artist and the careers available to those who enjoy art.
On Monday, October 17 Jackie will be participating in a Professional Development activity for CCSD teachers, as well as a book reading and signing for the general public. Both of these events will take place at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Pkwy. Space is limited for both events, and both require pre-registration.

Jackie’s “Duck” books will be available for sale at both Monday events.As part of Jackie’s visit, children will have the opportunity to participate is a poster contest through their school. Posters will be signed and evaluated by Jackie, and the winners will be announced at the Monday book signing. Representatives from the winning schools will be invited to the Henderson City Council meeting Tuesday evening to receive their prizes.
