Safekey to Partner with APPLE
Jim Norman, Director of the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department, worked with city staff and representatives from the Southeast Region of the Clark County School District to develop and implement plans to help children with reading and literacy efforts as part of the APPLE Partnership.
Children at
Safekey traditionally have focused on crafts, games, cooking and a variety of special activities as an alternative while their parents' work. The program offers a variety of stimulating activities to help children grow socially, emotionally and physically as well as homework assistance and a USDA-approved snack.
"This is one of the key components of our participation with the APPLE Partnership," said Henderson Mayor James B. Gibson. "The children and parents who participate in Safekey have the opportunity for a little extra assistance to help with reading skills and work where those children need it most so they can become skilled readers."
The Safekey program is a before- and after-school program run by the city at all Henderson elementary schools. Registration is ongoing at all Safekey sites during Safekey hours (before and after school until 6:00 pm), Monday through Friday. Check with your Safekey site for additional information or call (702) 267-4100.
